SARA HALLOWELL is a writer/director working in film, television, and theater. She has garnered multiple awards for her short films, including recognition from directors Werner Herzog, Neil LaBute, and Wim Wenders. Her screenplays have earned dozens of competition accolades, have all topped the Coverfly RedList 1%, and have been invited to participate in Cinestory and Stowe Story Labs.
Her feature Hidden People was optioned by Creative Chaos and feature On Your Six (based on screenplay Red River by Lou Frederick) by FirstMarch. Her pilot Lady M. was a 2025 Tony Cox top three finalist at Nantucket Film Festival, is a 2025 top ten finalist at the Nashville Film Festival (winner TBA), a 2025 top ten finalist for Launch Pad and WritersxWriters competitions, and a WriteLA 2025 winner. Her pilot I Am the Storm (co-written with Arabella Field) was selected for the 2024 Stowe Story Labs and thus far is a finalist/semifinalist in multiple 2025 screenwriting competitions.
Her stage play Blood Moon was developed and performed at Naked Angels, Rogue Machine Theater, and The Blank Theater. She has created commercial content for Ripple Funeral Services, New Line, Sheryl Crow, photographer Matthew Ralston, and Best Buy. She is a member of SAG-AFTRA, AEA, and the Alliance of Women Directors.
She was recently selected as one of twelve participants for the Meryl Streep/Nicole Kidman/Natalie Portman-supported 2025 The Writers Lab.
She lives in Ipswich, Massachusetts with her husband and three dogs and misses her son, a rising college junior.
