Sara Hallowell is an award-winning writer/director. 

Her first short Pharaoh’s Heart was awarded a Panavision film grant and went on to screen and win Best Short Film and Audience Awards at US film festivals. Her second short Retta’s Revenge also screened at US film festivals. Sara went on to win awards for her next four shorts (Happy Hour, Happy Birthday Charlie, Salesgirl, Elizabeth) at Filmaka, an international film competition juried by Paul Schrader, Werner Herzog, Wim Wenders and Neil LaBute. Salesgirl also won the Canon Film Award at LA’s Dances with Films Festival.

As a screenwriter, her short Hello I Must Be Going, feature Blood Moon and pilot Gone Hollywood have won/placed in over fifty 2020/21/22 competitions and top the Coverfly RedList. Originally a play, Blood Moon was workshopped at Rogue Machine Theater, The Blank Theater and Naked Angels, was directed by Arye Gross and starred Barbara Bain.

In addition, Hallowell has written/directed promotional DVD’s for New LinePretty-Pretty Cosmetics, music videos for IKTV-Tao Music, was consulting director on spots for Best Buy and Sheryl Crow, as well as written and directed for photographer Matthew Rolston.

In the fall of 2020 and the spring of 2021, Sara was invited to attend both of CineStory Foundation’s feature and TV retreats. In fall 2022, she was invited to Stowe Story Labs. In 2023, UKs Pickfair Productions optioned her television pilot GONE HOLLYWOOD and Creative Chaos optioned her feature BLOOD MOON.

She is a member of SAG-AFTRA, AEA, AWD (Alliance of Women Directors).
